Valentine Classic Now A Mini Tour

on

Belize City, BELIZE

On Saturday, February 7, 2015 the Cycling Federation of Belize announced the 20th edition of the annual Valentine’s Classic as the DigiCell Valentine Mini Tour. The perennial road race for the first time will be but a part of a two day mini tour featuring a prologue and circuit race on day 1 and the road race on day two. All races in the first quarter of the cycling calendar serve as a measuring stick for the Annual Holy Saturday Cross Country Classic, the longest standing Belizean tradition, making its 87th run on April 4th of this year. According to federation representatives, adopting a mini tour instead of a single road race gives the riders a chance to experience, under competitive circumstances, the different facets of racing presented by the prologue and the circuit. Though they were unable to give details, they expressed the intent to similarly format the upcoming Belmopan Classic on the weekend on March 15, 2015.

It is uncertain how the riders will perform in this type of event given their acclimation to one day road races. One certainty, however, is that the 2014 winner, Angel Tzib (pictured above), now riding for Team SMART, is part of a team that got off to a good start in 2015 by taking 3 of the top 10 spots in the Krem New Year’s Day Classic. Tzib finished that race as the second Belizean to cross the line but just missed the podium as he rode in after Ron Vasquez of Western Spirit who took 3rd overall. The format should make for an interesting weekend of racing and we expect to bring you the ensuing results and reactions.

The event is scheduled as follows;
